Tree service for North Fort Myers — river oaks, acreage pines and the unincorporated side of the river

Between the Cape and the river crossings, North Fort Myers is unincorporated Lee County: riverfront estates with century oaks, mobile-home parks under slash pines, and acreage off Bayshore where the county's five-acre clearing rule starts to matter.

Climber lowering a live oak limb on a rope over the roof of a canal-front home in Cape Coral

North Fort Myers is the unincorporated stretch of Lee County between Cape Coral and the Caloosahatchee: the riverfront along North River Road and the Moody River communities, the dense US-41 and Pondella corridor of 1970s–80s subdivisions and manufactured-home communities, Hancock Creek and the Cape's eastern edge, and the acreage out Bayshore Road, Slater Road and Nalle Grade toward I-75 and the Babcock Ranch road. LCEC's headquarters sits here, and so does the co-op's densest service area. The trees run the full Lee County range: century live oaks and big slash pines on the river estates, Australian pines along the river and the creek, mature oaks and pines shading the manufactured-home parks, and flatwoods and old citrus on the acreage.

Because it's unincorporated, the county's rules apply rather than the Cape's: no permit for a tree on a built residential lot unless it's a barrier island, but a vegetation removal permit for clearing a single-family lot of five acres or more, no-fee exotic removal permits, and the county's protected-tree provisions for development. The storm history is the river's: Ian's surge came up the Caloosahatchee here, Milton's gusts and Helene's water followed, and the manufactured-home communities under the big pines are where the emergency calls come from first.

Questions from North Fort Myers homeowners

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in North Fort Myers?

On a built single-family lot in unincorporated Lee County, generally no for a handful of trees a year, and never for an arborist-documented hazard tree. Clearing a lot of five acres or more needs a county vegetation removal permit; exotic removal permits are free. We check the parcel.

How do you work in a manufactured-home park?

Carefully: the homes are close, the roofs are light, and the pines are tall. Sections are lowered on ropes or lifted by a small crane from the road; we coordinate with park management on access and timing.

My avocado tree died suddenly. What happened?

Almost certainly laurel wilt — a fungus carried by the redbay ambrosia beetle, now in every Florida county, that kills avocados, redbays and swampbays within weeks. Remove the tree, chip it and tarp the chips so the beetles don't fly to the next one.

Can you clear five acres off Bayshore?

Yes — with the county's vegetation removal permit, a gopher tortoise and eagle check, and selective clearing to keep the oaks and pines the site plan wants. Light clearing runs $1,500–$3,500 an acre, heavy pine and palmetto $5,000–$10,000.
